I am an artist, this is my work and I want to share it with you. Looking at art is a unique and personal experience, one that can be felt as much as it is seen, so I cannot tell you what to look for or how to feel about my work. I invite you to explore and discover what it says to you.
I remember the feeling of freedom and wonder I felt as a child when creating art. There was a sense of peace and focus that seemed to elude me in other areas of life. Learning to read was difficult and math seemed to be an unsolvable puzzle. Through art I found a place of value in this world and a form of expression without words, an unspoken language, a language of color, line, and shape. Art became my mother tongue.
My artistic passion is centered on form and design. My current work explores the contrast between order and chaos. I’m drawn to the tension between the simplicity of line and the complexity of depth and texture. With each new piece I strive to build on my past artistic experience by adding fresh elements and pushing myself to experiment.
I’ve been a professional artist since graduating from university in 1983. I spent 30 years as a freelance illustrator, creating hundreds of images for clients and receiving honors from professional organizations including the New York Art Directors Club, Communications Arts, Society of Illustrators and others. As a conceptual artist I sharpened my sense of design in order to communicate. Since shifting my focus away from illustration, I’ve used those skills to create fine art pieces which are personally satisfying, have earned numerous awards from exhibition jurors, and can be found in private and public collections throughout the world.
